Indonesia AirAsia has conceded it did not officially have the authority to operate the Surabaya-Singapore route on Sundays when its Airbus A320-200 operating as flight QZ8501 on the route crashed Sunday, Dec. 28 into the Java Sea.

The Indonesian government suspended Indonesia AirAsia from operating the Surabaya-Singapore route altogether in early January, saying the airline had committed a route authority violation by flying the route on a Sunday when its permit on the route was for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
