Eurocopter and Turbomeca inaugurate a training center specializing in engine maintenance in México
Eurocopter de México (EMSA) and Turbomeca México (Safran Group) have signed a cooperation agreement for the training of helicopter maintenance technicians and recently opened their first joint training center in Mexico, which is also the first of its kind on the American continent to offer Spanish-speaking instructors.
This new center, inaugurated today by Eurocopter's Executive Vice President Global Business and Services, Dominique Maudet, and Vice President Customer Support and Sales for Turbomeca, Serge Maillé, will complement the training activities by EMSA, which has already provided training for more than 150 technicians and 100 helicopter pilots since 2010. From now on, operators in the region will benefit from complete helicopter training in Spanish and in one location, focusing on four basic areas: mechanics, avionics, piloting and engine maintenance.
"The flight safety of our aircraft is a key priority that Eurocopter shares with Turbomeca, one of our longest-standing business partners," said Dominique Maudet. "Training is an essential pillar of our strategy to improve flight safety and optimize the availability of the helicopters operated by our customers all over the world."
Serge Maillé commented that "these new facilities will enable Eurocopter de México S.A. and Turbomeca México to better serve our Spanish-speaking customers. This cooperation will also be useful for technicians working for customers of both these companies in Latin America."
The inauguration ceremony for this new center located on the EMSA site at Mexico City International Airport was also attended by Sergio Romero Orozco, Director General of the Mexican Department of Civil Aviation (DGAC) and Serge Durand, CEO of EMSA.
The new joint training center has 3 theoretical and practical classrooms offering courses to familiarize trainees with the parts and tools necessary for maintenance of Turbomeca's Arriel and Makila models, the engines used in Eurocopter's AS350, EC130, EC145, EC225 and EC725 helicopters and the Dauphin family of helicopters.
Eurocopter has more than 20 training centers all over the world for both civil and military pilots, technicians and aerospace experts.

The carrier's latest fleet addition carries the wording: "Thank you Louis Gallois" on its main passenger door, saluting the former Airbus CEO – who will complete his current role as the CEO of parent company EADS next week.
During a ceremony at Airbus' Toulouse, France delivery centre, the A320 was unveiled in the presence of Gallois, who was welcomed by Air Asia Group CEO Tony Fernandes, and joined by Airbus President and CEO Thomas Enders, along with John Leahy, Airbus' Chief Operating Officer – Customers. Attending the event were members of the international press, who gathered in Toulouse for Airbus' annual Innovation Days event.
"Air Asia could not have reached this point in our amazing story without the tremendous support we've received from Airbus, going back to the start of our relationship in 2004," Fernandes told the journalists. "No airline could have grown like ours without the support of such a great partner as Airbus, who has seen us through both the good and bad times."
Air Asia has gone from its origins as a two-aircraft airline carrying 200,000 passengers annually a decade ago to becoming the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region's leading low-cost carrier, with the goal of transporting 33 million passengers in 2012.
"Gallois has played an enormous role in helping us achieve this growth, and naming the 100th aircraft after him is one way to thank this friend of our airline for his warmth, friendship, patience, and especially his belief – which is a key element at Airbus," he added. "What Airbus did was believe two guys from the music industry who had a dream about making it easier to fly, and they have stayed with that belief in helping us deliver on that ambition and transforming travel in Asia forever."
The airline currently has 375 A320s on order, including Airbus' A320neo (new engine option) version. Fernandes said Air Asia's innovative route structure includes 50 percent of routes that were not previously operated by other carriers, with many of these segments using the A320's operational flexibility – including opening access to many airports.
"The A320 delivers fantastic reliability, and we work these aircraft very hard: flying them almost 14 hours a day – conducting eight landings and takeoffs, performing turnarounds in 25 minutes," he added.

Piloted by Tim Berg and Randy Neville, the airplane successfully conducted a five-hour test flight. More than 5,000 Boeing South Carolina employees watched a live broadcast of the airplane as it took off from Charleston International Airport.

"In April, we gathered on the flightline to watch this airplane roll out of final assembly. Today, we watched as this airplane successfully completed its first production flight - one step closer to delivering our first South Carolina-built 787 Dreamliner to our customer."
Today's production flight test profile tested the airplane's controls and systems in a series of scenarios designed to verify the airplane operates as designed. The tests occurred in all stages of flight beginning prior to taxi, through final landing and taxi.
During the flight, the crew checked the functionality of onboard systems at high and medium altitudes. They also checked backup and critical safety elements including cabin pressurization, avionics, and navigation and communications systems. In addition, they shut down and re-started each engine during flight.
"First flight of this South Carolina-built airplane is a significant achievement and our teammates did a great job working together to make this happen," said Berg. "The airplane performed exactly as we expected."
The airplane will be flown to Ft. Worth, Texas to be painted with Air India's livery before returning to Boeing South Carolina for a mid-2012 delivery.

EADS North America UH-72A Lakota fleet hits 100,000 flight hour milestone
HERNDON, Va. and HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 22, 2012
Lakota fleet achieves 100,000 flight hours with 219 aircraft operating in U.S., Europe, Caribbean, and Pacific with Army and Army National Guard units
The U.S. Army's fleet of 219 UH-72A Lakota helicopters surpassed the 100,000 flight hour milestone during operations on May 10. The 100,000 flight hour aircraft, configured for Opposing Force training missions, was flown by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jason Lacrosse and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christopher Ezell of the Joint Multinational Readiness Center's Falcon Observer/Controller-Trainer Team in Hohenfels, Germany, during a multinational training exercise.
The Army's fleet of Lakota helicopters, built by the company's American Eurocopter business unit in Columbus, Miss., have been in operation since November 2006 with all 219 helicopters to date delivered on schedule and within budget. The Army's requirement is 345 Lakotas through 2016. An additional five aircraft have been delivered to the U.S. Navy for test pilot training.
"Achieving 100,000 flight hours in just five-and-a-half years and remaining on schedule and on cost is an extraordinary accomplishment for a major defense acquisition program," said Col. Thomas Todd, the Army's Utility Helicopter Project Manager.
"Over the past seven years, the Lakota program has been a model of program execution, and this latest flight milestone reinforces the reliability and solid performance of the UH-72A," said Sean O'Keefe, EADS North America Chairman and CEO. "Our entire industry team takes great pride in delivering a fleet of aircraft with an extremely high operational availability rate, mission flexibility and extraordinary reliability. The program's success is built on a very strong partnership with the Army program office."
The 100,000 flight hour milestone reflects the structure and execution of the Lakota program's logistics concept. A combination of full contractor logistics support (CLS) and hybrid CLS enables the Army and Army National Guard to operate the aircraft in accordance with their flying hour plan. The Army program office, military units, and the industry team of EADS North America, American Eurocopter and Helicopter Support International has provided tailored program logistics to the Army and Army National Guard since 2006.
The Lakota fleet has averaged an operational availability rate greater than 90 percent for locations with the full contractor logistics (CLS) support, encompassing 18 different military units. The hybrid CLS is equally successful with a parts support fill rate exceeding 95 percent. These metrics are 10 percent higher than the program's contractual requirements.
The latest evolution of the Lakota is delivered in the Security and Support (S&S) Battalion Mission Equipment Package configuration for the Army National Guard, which is currently using numerous S&S Lakotas along the U.S. Southwest border, flying 1,500 hours in the first three months of operation.
The S&S MEP contains a centerline electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) sensor, a 30 million candlepower search light, analog/digital video downlink, rear observer's console with a 15-inch display, an enhanced tactical communications suite, an onboard digital video recorder, 10.4-inch auxiliary displays for the pilot and copilot, and a video management system.
The UH-72A is a Defense Acquisition Category (ACAT) 1C major defense acquisition program for the U.S. Defense Department, and it marked one of the most rapid introductions of a new aircraft in the U.S. Army's history. Deliveries of the UH-72A to National Guard and Active Component units allow aging OH-58 and UH-1 rotary-wing aircraft to be retired and allow UH-60 Black Hawks to be returned to combat operations.

This month's delivery of Eurocopter's initial A350 XWB jetliner passenger door produced at its Donauwörth, Germany facility represents a further milestone in a program that underscores synergies between helicopter production and the construction of carbon fiber aircraft components.
In a ceremony in Donauwörth's C4 production building, Dr. Wolfgang Schoder, Eurocopter Executive Vice President - Programs, and Dr. Michael Rehmet, Vice President - Airplane Door Systems, marked this delivery milestone with Didier Evrard, Airbus Executive Vice President and A350 Program Head.
As prime contractor and system supplier, Eurocopter is providing a full set of door systems that will equip this latest widebody member of Airbus' jetliner family.
"The development and manufacture of aircraft components is another mainstay of Eurocopter's activities in Germany, which complements our helicopter production," Schoder explained. "The A350 XWB's door systems demonstrate our innovative strength and international competitiveness in the field of carbon fiber technology."
The A350 XWB passenger doors are the first for a commercial aircraft to be made entirely of carbon fiber reinforced plastic – an ideal material for modern aircraft construction, which is characterized by its combination of lightness and rigidity, as well as its outstanding fatigue properties and corrosion resistance.
Benefits of Eurocopter's technical innovation in the A350 XWB aircraft doors include a reduction in parts, the application of advanced mechanical systems and equipment that are easier to maintain, and additional safety features. Series production is handled at the company's Donauwörth site in a new building designed to meet the exacting requirements of automated production methods and quality control at high production rates.

Total value of the A350 XWB door systems to be provided by Eurocopter is nearly 1.5 billion euros, which includes the cargo doors subcontracted to program partners in South Korea.
In addition to the passenger door presented to Airbus today, five cargo doors already have been delivered. A total of seven door shipsets for the A350 XWB are slated for delivery in 2012 – each composed of four pairs of passenger doors, two cargo doors and one baggage door.
Eurocopter employs a total of some 1,300 personnel in Germany on the development, production, and maintenance of aircraft components. Every year, the Donauwörth site produces more than 4,000 passenger and cargo doors for various aircraft types in the Airbus product line.

The A350 XWB passenger doors are the first for a commercial aircraft to be made entirely of carbon fiber reinforced plastic – an ideal material for modern aircraft construction, which is characterized by its combination of lightness and rigidity, as well as its outstanding fatigue properties and corrosion resistance.
Benefits of Eurocopter's technical innovation in the A350 XWB aircraft doors include a reduction in parts, the application of advanced mechanical systems and equipment that are easier to maintain, and additional safety features. Series production is handled at the company's Donauwörth site in a new building designed to meet the exacting requirements of automated production methods and quality control at high production rates.

"The A350 XWB brings together the latest in aerodynamics, design and advanced technologies from Airbus and our partners to provide a 25 percent step-change in fuel efficiency compared to the competition."
Eurocopter currently has approximately 250 employees working on the A350 XWB passenger door program's design, development and production. Series production eventually will involve more than 400 employees. Total value of the A350 XWB door systems to be provided by Eurocopter is nearly 1.5 billion euros, which includes the cargo doors subcontracted to program partners in South Korea.
In addition to the passenger door presented to Airbus today, five cargo doors already have been delivered. A total of seven door shipsets for the A350 XWB are slated for delivery in 2012 – each composed of four pairs of passenger doors, two cargo doors and one baggage door.
Eurocopter employs a total of some 1,300 personnel in Germany on the development, production, and maintenance of aircraft components. Every year, the Donauwörth site produces more than 4,000 passenger and cargo doors for various aircraft types in the Airbus product line.

Airbus, el fabricante líder de aviones, lanza el sábado 30 de junio, 2012 en Toulouse, Francia, una nueva iniciativa para reclutar personal con el fin de encontrar los mejores ingenieros, técnicos y gestores para sus programas de aviones.
Las vacantes están disponibles en Francia, Alemania, España y Reino Unido para profesionales con talento y experiencia en las siguientes áreas: diseño de estructura, análisis de estrés, arquitectura e integración, instalación de sistemas eléctricos, calidad, cadena de suministro, ingeniería de fabricación, servicios al cliente, así como gestión de sistemas, ensayos en vuelo y gestión de configuración.
Los candidatos deben tener como mínimo de 3 a 5 años de experiencia profesional, además de buen nivel de inglés. Para algunos puestos, se valorarán conocimientos de francés, alemán o español.
