Airbus shows off its latest products at 50th Paris Air Show

3 JUNE 2013 PRESS RELEASE

Airbus is showcasing its latest commercial and military product range at the 50th international Paris Air Show at Le Bourget from June 17th to 23rd, 2013. The latest innovations from the EADS Group will be on display and experts will be available to answer questions. Throughout the show, EADS human resource experts will hold a series of career workshops and events for students and attendees considering a future in the aerospace industry. Commercial announcements will also be made during the week.

An A400M (soon to be delivered to the French Air Force) and British Airways' soon to be delivered first A380 will take the centre stage during the first few days of the show, followed by Airbus' own flight test aircraft later in the week. Both aircraft types can be viewed on static and flying displays throughout the week. Watch out for the launch of the new A380 advertising campaign "Own the sky".

Various commercial aircraft will be delivered to customers during the show, including Sharklet equipped A320s, an A330, and the 100th Airbus Military C295. An Airbus ACJ318 which has the widest and tallest cabin of any business jet will also be on static display.

A full life size A350 XWB cockpit and cabin section can be walked through at the EADS pavilion (Row A). Here visitors can experience the latest EADS group innovations that are shaping the future of aviation. This includes an e-Concept Plane, the latest ideas for silent aircraft taxiing, reduced emission flights and sustainable new energies. The latest developments in new energies can be viewed at the dedicated "Alternative Fuels" pavilion (Hall 1 - Stand D). Models of current EADS group wide products are on display at the EADS stand (Hall 2A – Rotonde).

Airbus' international student competition "Fly Your Ideas" inspires young minds, and by putting innovation, creativity and people at the heart, Airbus aims to attract the world's most talented individuals. In 2013, Airbus is recruiting 3,000 people globally to add to the 10,000 already hired since 2011. During the week visitors are invited to the EADS static area to leave their creative mark on a giant artwork to be entitled "Express Yourself – Design Your Future".

Commercial announcements and product briefings will be held at the EADS pavilion's media centre, as well as the end of show press conference which is scheduled for Thursday, June 20th at 10:00. Alerts for upcoming events will be posted at the EADS pavilion and the air show's main press centre. Information, photos and show updates will be updated regularly on here and on our dedicated Paris Airshow website

First Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Begins Final Assembly

EVERETT, Wash., June 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has begun final assembly of the first 787-9 Dreamliner. The newest member of the 787 family began taking shape on schedule May 30 in Everett, Wash., when Boeing started joining large sections of the super-efficient jet.

"From the start, the entire 787-9 team has focused relentlessly on execution so that we fulfill the commitments to our customers," said Mark Jenks, vice president, 787 Airplane Development, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Integrating the 787-9 into our production system on time is another clear sign that we are well prepared and well positioned for the work ahead."

Boeing's global partners delivered the first 787-9 sections to final assembly on or ahead of schedule, and strong progress continues beyond, with major assembly under way on the other flight-test airplanes. "The dedication, quality and skill of our partners are helping drive our disciplined performance," said Jenks.

Boeing will build the first three 787-9s on its Temporary Surge Line in Everett to allow for smoother integration of the 787-9 into the production system while continuing to ramp up production across the 787 program.

The 787-9 will complement and extend the 787 family, offering airlines the ability to grow routes opened with the 787-8. With the fuselage stretched by 20 feet (6 meters), the 787-9 will carry 40 more passengers an additional 300 nautical miles (555 kilometers) while using 20 percent less fuel than similarly sized airplanes. The 787-9 leverages the visionary design of the 787-8, offering the features passengers prefer such as large, dimmable windows, large stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.

The vertical stabilizer on this 787-9 reflects the new Boeing Commercial Airplanes livery, a refreshed look for the Boeing family of airplanes that started with the 747-8 and evolved with the 737 MAX. Many features of the livery on the original 787 are reflected in the new design. The prominent number designator on the tail helps distinguish various models within the same product family.

First flight of the 787-9 is scheduled for the second half of 2013, with first delivery to launch customer Air New Zealand set for early 2014. 20 customers around the world have ordered 355 787-9s, accounting for 40 percent of all 787 orders.

ecoDemonstrator Takes Flight (Video)

Boeing experiments with eco-friendly equipment of
tomorrow
Boeing and American Airlines are partnering on the
"ecoDemonstrator" to study what could be the future of
environmentally friendly airplanes.
Outfitted with a variety of advanced experimental
equipment, "the ecoDemonstrator is part of a multi-faceted
approach that Boeing is taking to achieve these
environmental goals," said John Tracy, Boeing chief
technology officer. "I am proud of the leadership role that
Boeing is playing in advancing the science of aerospace
and demonstrating the value of these technologies to our
airline customers, the flying public, and to society at large."
American Airlines is loaning a new Next-Generation
737-800 to Boeing to serve as the test-bed for these
advanced technologies. The flight testing completed in
Glasgow allowed Boeing engineers to gather volumes of
data about the viability of each technology. After testing is
complete, the airplane will be returned to standard
configuration and delivered to American later this year.

Boeing Celebrates Delivery of 50th 747-8

  • - Launch customer Lufthansa takes delivery of milestone airplane
  • - Reliability of fleet stands at 98.8 percent

EVERETT, Wash., May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) celebrated the 50th delivery of a 747-8 today. Deutsche Lufthansa AG, the launch customer of the passenger version, took delivery of the milestone aircraft almost one year after the first revenue flight of the 747-8 Intercontinental. It is the airline's seventh 747-8 and its 82nd 747.

"Lufthansa is very proud to have the next Boeing 747-8 entering our fleet – almost exactly one year after the launch flight from Frankfurt to Washington, DC," said Nico Buchholz, Executive Vice President Fleet Management, Deutsche Lufthansa AG. "After one year of operation and now seven aircraft in the fleet, the aircraft has proven and delivered the excellent economical and ecological performance. We are very happy with the reliable operation of the 747-8."

For more than a year-and-a-half, airlines have benefited from the 747-8's excellent schedule reliability, utilization, performance and operational advantages. Schedule reliability, an industry measure of departure from the gate within 15 minutes of scheduled time, is 98.8 percent for the 747-8 fleet.

"This delivery is not only an important milestone for the 747-8 program, but it sets the stage for our future," said Eric Lindblad, vice president and general manager, 747 program. "We will be building and delivering the 747-8 for decades to come."

This milestone delivery also represents the shared commitment to quality, innovation and affordability of Boeing and its global supply chain to produce the world's most iconic, fuel-efficient large commercial airplane. The 747-8 has about six million parts manufactured by more than 550 suppliers in almost 30 countries, including the United States, China, Germany, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom. In the U.S., more than 450 suppliers across almost 40 states contribute to the 747-8 program.

Boeing delivered the first 747-8 Intercontinental to Lufthansa in April 2012. The airplane entered service on June 1, 2012 with a flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Washington, D.C. Cargolux Airlines took delivery of the first 747-8 Freighter in Oct. 2011. To date, 35 Freighters and 15 Intercontinentals, including eight of the Boeing Business Jet version, have been delivered.
