India to Cut Stealth Fighter Order by Third

India is cutting its order for a fifth-generation stealth fighter being developed jointly with Russia by a third, India's Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne told India Strategic.

India will now order just 144 of the fighters, all single-seat models, Browne said, down from an originally-intended batch of around 200, including 48 two-seaters.

The original figure, of 200 aircraft, would have been possible if the aircraft was ready by 2017, with the first batch coming from Russian production lines. But India now wants to take on a greater share of development, pushing back the production date for the Indian variant, which is likely to be 2020 at the earliest.

Nissan to offer drive-by-wire technology on select Infiniti models

Nissan to offer drive-by-wire technology on select Infiniti models:
Your car may soon be controlled by electronic impulses – if it's an Infiniti
As much as computers have permeated our lives, some things have remained old-fashioned. Just look at automobiles. Despite the presence of computer diagnostic systems, and built-in support for iPods, smartphones, and Siri, modern cars still largely rely on mechanical technology. Nissan is trying to change that, with drive-by-wire steering tech that has been long in development, but slow in real-world implementation...

Carbon nanotube composite material could replace carbon fiber

Carbon nanotube composite material could replace carbon fiber:
The ribbon-like material being wound onto a spool, while being sprayed with polymer and st...
When people need a material that’s strong yet lightweight, they usually look to carbon fiber. In the near future, however, they may instead choose to go with composite materials made from stretched carbon nanotubes. These materials could theoretically offer the same strength as carbon fiber at one-tenth the weight, or the same weight at ten times the strength. Researchers from North Carolina State University have recently succeeded in creating such a composite... Continue Reading Carbon nanotube composite material could replace carbon fiber
