Como parte de su empeño por proporcionar más recursos e información a nuevos públicos, la NASA ha lanzado nuevas páginas web con información sobre aeronáutica en español. El objetivo de estas páginas es hacer más accesible el contenido aeronáutico a la comunidad hispanohablante.



"Se trata de un significativo paso adelante en nuestros esfuerzos por poner los conocimientos que hemos acumulado en la NASA a disposición de la gente de todo el país, y del mundo. Nos estamos asegurando de que a medida que exploramos y abordamos los mayores retos a los que se enfrenta la aviación, estamos proporcionando beneficios para todos", dijo Bob Pearce, administrador asociado de la Dirección de Misiones de Investigación Aeronáutica de la NASA. "Al presentar información sobre aeronáutica y materiales educativos en español, estamos esforzándonos por fomentar una próxima generación de exploradores diversa, audaz y capaz. Contamos con esta generación para ayudar a la NASA a llevar su visión hacia el futuro."



Según datos de la Oficina del Censo de Estados Unidos, el español es la segunda lengua más hablada en este país, después del inglés. La traducción de los contenidos aeronáuticos de la NASA ayudará a inspirar a la próxima generación de exploradores de la NASA.



Las páginas web ofrecen material educativo sobre el trabajo que realiza la Dirección de Misiones de Investigación Aeronáutica de la NASA. Contienen información sobre las principales prioridades de la agencia, incluida la aviación sostenible. La NASA se ha comprometido a conseguir que las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero del sector de la aviación sean nulas en 2050 y se esfuerza por alcanzar ese objetivo liderando campos que van desde las tecnologías ecológicas y el diseño de aeronaves hasta la fabricación de materiales compuestos y las pruebas de combustibles sostenibles. Las nuevas páginas ayudarán a la agencia a dar a conocer esta labor a nuevos miembros del público.

Leading aircraft design and certification specialist, Aerospace Engineering Solutions (AES), is powering into 2023 with the launch of a new office in Malaga, Spain, as the company embarks on a phase of international expansion.

Trading as AES Spain, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AES, the new operation will enable the business to develop new partnerships with commercial and private aviation clients across Europe, which will benefit from the unrestricted level 2A Design Organisation Approval (DOA) capability held by AES.

Located at Malaga’s state-of-the-art business incubator technology park, BIC Euronova, AES Spain is the first DOA in Malaga and only the second in Andalucía. The new operation has also become a member of the Andalucía Aerospace cluster of more than sixty aerospace companies based in the region, for the purpose of fostering technological developments, potential project collaboration and strengthening its international presence.

In addition to a team of highly skilled design engineers, AES Spain has recruited two aerospace engineering graduates from the University of Malaga, as part of the company’s commitment to future-proofing its skills base.

Speaking at the launch of AES Spain, Anton Heissig, Director and Head of Design, said:

Boeing to Retain ICBM Guidance Systems Work into Late 2030s


 Boeing [NYSE: BA] has been selected by the U.S. Air Force as the prime contractor for the nation's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) guidance subsystems support. The contract is worth up to $1.6 billion over 16 years, will be primarily performed in Ogden, Utah, and Heath, Ohio, and is expected to support a significant amount of direct and indirect jobs in the area.        

Boeing will maintain the around-the-clock readiness and accuracy of Minuteman ICBM guidance systems — which have logged more than 40 million hours of continuous operation — to ensure safe, secure and effective strategic deterrence into the late 2030s.

"We built the Minuteman's guidance system, so no one knows it like Boeing. Our highly-specialized facilities and top-flight engineers enable us to sustain it with unmatched quality and precision," said Ted Kerzie, program director of Strategic Deterrence Systems. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Air Force on this all-important mission."

The Boeing-built ICBM weapon system has served as the backbone of the U.S. nuclear triad since the inception of strategic deterrence. Boeing is the only company that has continuously supported every ICBM subsystem — guidance, ground, propulsion and re-entry — over the lifetime of the system.

Qatar Airways and Airbus reach amicable settlement in legal dispute

Toulouse, 1 February 2023 - Qatar Airways and Airbus are pleased to have reached an amicable and mutually agreeable settlement in relation to their legal dispute over A350 surface degradation and the grounding of A350 aircraft.

A repair project is now underway and both parties look forward to getting these aircraft safely back in the air.

The details of the settlement are confidential and the parties will now proceed to discontinue their legal claims.

The settlement agreement is not an admission of liability for either party.

This agreement will enable Qatar Airways and Airbus to move forward and work together as partners.

DARPA Selects Performer Teams for Liberty Lifter X-Plane Program


First phase will define the seaplane's design and capabilities

Two teams -- General Atomics working with Maritime Applied Physics Corporation and Aurora Flight Sciences working with Gibbs & Cox and ReconCraft -- will develop designs for DARPA's Liberty Lifter Seaplane Wing-in-Ground Effect full-scale demonstrator. The Liberty Lifter program aims to demonstrate a leap-ahead in operational capability by designing, building, floating, and flying a long-range, low-cost X-Plane capable of seaborne strategic and tactical heavy lift.

The planned Liberty Lifter demonstrator will be a large flying boat similar in size and capacity to the C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft. Goals include takeoff and land in Sea State 4, sustained on-water operation up to Sea State 5, and extended flight close to the water in ground effect with the capability to fly out of ground effect at altitudes up to 10,000 feet above sea level.

"We are excited to kick off this program and looking forward to working closely with both performer teams as they mature their point-of-departure design concepts through Phase 1," said DARPA Liberty Lifter Program Manager Christopher Kent. "The two teams have taken distinctly different design approaches that will enable us to explore a relatively large design space during Phase 1."

The General Atomics team has selected a twin-hull, mid-wing design to optimize on-water stability and seakeeping. It employs distributed propulsion using twelve turboshaft engines.



Aurora Flight Sciences point-of-departure design more closely resembles a traditional flying boat, with a single hull, high wing and eight turboprops for primary propulsion.


During Phase 1, DARPA will work with both performer teams and Department of Defense stakeholders to refine the Liberty Lifter designs with particular attention to operational needs and operating concepts. The Phase 1 contract awards are for an 18-month period of performance with six months of conceptual design work and nine months of design maturation culminating in a preliminary design review. There will be an additional three months for manufacturing planning and test/demonstration planning reviews.

As scheduled, Phase 1 will transition into Phase 2 in mid-2024 with continued detailed design, manufacturing, and demonstration of a full-scale Liberty Lifter X-Plane. DARPA anticipates teaming with one or more DoD Service and international partners for those activities and further development of the Liberty Lifter concept into an operational vehicle.

SAN DIEGO (January 26, 2023) – Natilus, a U.S. corporation designing and producing the world's first autonomous aircraft for efficient and sustainable freight transport, has announced that Ameriflight, an industry leader in freight operations, has become the first regional U.S. carrier to sign an Aircraft Purchase Agreement with Natilus. The Ameriflight agreement for 20 Natilus Kona feeder aircraft valued at $134M brings total commitments to $6.8 billion for delivery of 460+ aircraft.

Ameriflight is the nation's largest Part 135 cargo airline, serving 200 destinations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America – with more than 1,500 weekly departures. As a critical part of the supply chain with UPS being its largest customer, Ameriflight's primary business is moving high priority air freight to and from remote areas across the country for overnight express carriers.
