Por eso la se están haciendo estudios para comprobar dónde es mejor situarlas. Así que la NASA, en sus instalaciones de Langley para ensayar aterrizajes e impactos. Para eso están dejando caer esta Cessna desde 25m de altura. Y como era de esperar... no, las balizas no han funcionado. Estos fallos habituales se debe a que el equipo está instalado de tal manera que no resiste el impacto, las vibraciones que produce éste...
Durante el ensayo, se simuló un aterrizaje de emergencia en una autopista o en una pista de asfalto. Se dejó caer el avión desde 25m y "aporrizó" con una tasa de descenso de 22m/s. Posicionaron cámaras tanto dentro como fuera del avión, que nos permiten ver cómo se deformala estructura así como se comportan los cuerpos de los ocupantes durante el impacto. ¡Sorprende ver cómo resiste el tren de aterrizaje el impacto! De todos modos, no os confiéis en eso de que "el tren lo aguanta todo", que el tren aguanta más que vosotros, y si no, ¡mirad el movimiento de los dummies!

PLD Space, empresa instalada en el Parque Científico de la Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) de Elche, ha llevado a cabo con éxito el primer ensayo de un motor cohete de combustible líquido en España. Los tests se han realizado en las instalaciones para pruebas de sistemas de propulsión espacial, ubicadas en el aeropuerto de Teruel, único centro en España con capacidad para realizar este tipo de ensayos. Los cofundadores de esta empresa son el estudiante de Ingeniería Industrial de la UMH Raúl Verdú y Raúl Torres.

Para el test, se preparó un ensayo que se realizó durante 3 segundos y en el que se generaron más de 13 millones de datos y 5 GB de vídeo. Los resultados de este primer test del modelo calorimétrico del motor del cohete, que excluía la sección de tobera, han permitido probar la secuencia de encendido y de apagado del motor, la estabilidad de la combustión y, en general, el correcto funcionamiento de esta tecnología antes de empezar con los ensayos de calificación para el vuelo. Según afirma Verdú, director de Tecnología de PLD Space, es la primera vez que este tipo de tecnología se prueba en España y apenas 2 ó 3 organizaciones más en Europa lo han conseguido. "Es un hito importante que permite demostrar que somos una empresa capaz de desarrollar en nuestro país la tecnología necesaria para proporcionar acceso científico y comercial al espacio", afirma Raúl Verdú.
Esta start-up española ha diseñado, fabricado e integrado en su totalidad el motor de combustible líquido que están probando. Esta tecnología estará equipada en los cohetes Arion 1 y Arion 2, dos sistemas reutilizables con los que la empresa prevé reducir costes tanto de producción como para los clientes finales. Por una parte, Arion 1 se empleará para labores de sondeo y para el lanzamiento de cargas de pago suborbitales, para proporcionar acceso científico y comercial al espacio. Por otro lado, Arion 2, más pequeño que los cohetes orbitales actuales, servirá para lanzar pequeños satélites a órbita baja y desde España.
Tras varias pruebas similares, la empresa pretende llevar a cabo en las próximas semanas el ensayo completo, que permitirá probar el motor cohete durante 8 segundos y generar un empuje de 2,5 toneladas. "Debemos seguir evolucionando hasta que tengamos un motor que sea capaz de llevar un cohete al espacio", afirma Verdú. Según el estudiante de la UMH, durante la fase 2 del proyecto, PLD Space debe desarrollar el lanzador completo; de hecho, prevén realizar el primer lanzamiento de Arion 1 a mediados de 2018. Por el momento, la empresa continuará con las pruebas que certifiquen el motor cohete para vuelo y garanticen el éxito de los lanzamientos al espacio: "Nunca se lanza un cohete al espacio si previamente no ha sido probado en tierra y esto incluye también testar los motores en el banco de pruebas", afirma Verdú.
Según afirma el director ejecutivo de PLD Spce, Raúl Torres, el objetivo técnico de la empresa es que los motores cohete puedan llegar a cumplir los mismos ciclos de funcionamiento de los motores de aviación comercial, donde el motor no es desechado después de cada vuelo. Diseñados para ser 100% reutilizables durante varios vuelos, se pretende cumplir con la premisa de lanzar el cohete al espacio, aterrizar suavemente y volver a lanzar el cohete en plazos inferiores a 1 mes. El objetivo comercial es reducir el coste del acceso científico y comercial al espacio, tanto a nivel suborbital como para situar en órbita pequeños satélites.
