Enfoque digital a mercados

Its operators will benefit from modern avionics, increased performance and efficiency. The Spartan embodies the essence of national security, proving to be the best asset for armed forces' defence operations and for their fundamental contribution to population support and disaster relief." In a world hit this year by the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergencies international media have extensively reported on the C-27J's relentless and effective support to communities in need. Mr. Zoff also added: "Our customers have discovered in this aircraft an element of social inclusion, because it is the only aircraft capable to reach people in the most remote rural areas of their nations."

Leonardo is committed to serving and protecting communities around the world, contributing to their sustainable growth by leading in next generation technologies. Partnering with Governments, private organizations and industries for the best security and safety capabilities is a cornerstone of Leonardo's BeTomorrow2030 Strategic Plan.

Its capability to operate from the most rudimentary airstrips, performing short take-offs and landings (STOL) in extreme environmental conditions is enhanced by the winglets, while Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) provides an independent power source, which can restart engines in flight, or make the aircraft autonomous and self-reliable during deployment missions at improvised airfields.

The aircraft can be equipped with a Defensive Aids Sub-Systems suite, secure communications and ballistic protection in order to operate in high threat environments.

Thanks to its multiple roll-on/roll-off mission kits and systems, the C-27J can be quickly configured and reconfigured to carry out a wide range of tasks, including a tactical transport, maritime patrol, even incorporating ASW or C3ISR tasks. As a tactical transport aircraft, its capabilities include transport of troops, cargo, paratroops and cargo airdrop, Medevac/Casevac, VIP, but can also carry out operations of humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and fire-fighting, thanks to its fast operational reconfiguration.

Textron Aviation to expand service offerings to include repair of Citation CJ series landing gear

press release

Textron Aviation is expanding service offerings to provide customers with a new standard repair process for Cessna Citation CJ series aircraft main landing gear (MLG). This innovative solution, which is in the final stages of certification, will allow engineers to repair the MLG without having to replace it, improving cost-effectiveness of operation for customers.

Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, is leading this project with Able Aerospace Services Inc., which the company acquired in 2016.

“The desire to have the option to repair instead of replace CJ landing gear is something we’ve been hearing from our customers, so we are excited about this solution in response to their feedback,” said Brian Rohloff, senior vice president, Customer Support. “Currently, any amount of significant damage to landing gear requires replacement, which is a costly and time-consuming process. We are pleased to be able to solve this pain point and ultimately reduce operating costs for our customers while minimizing downtime by providing them with a rental asset while we repair their gear.”

With initial testing taking place on the Cessna Citation CJ3 aircraft, the company plans to subsequently apply the repairability solution across all CJ series aircraft starting in 2021. The company continues to evaluate additional Citation models which could benefit from such a program. And, recognizing the importance of long-term operating costs, Textron Aviation is taking the opportunity to address future repairability for its Cessna SkyCourier and Cessna Denali turboprops in development.

Textron Aviation has successfully completed static and cyclic testing of the Citation CJ3 MLG with up to five lifetimes (75,000 landings) of the gear’s life limit to substantiate the repair safe-life.

“At Textron Aviation, we are continuously evaluating our products and services to ensure we are meeting customer expectations,” said Kriya Shortt, senior vice president, Parts and Programs. “Leveraging the knowledge of our engineering team, coupled with the expanded repair capability and special processing with which Able is experienced, demonstrates our commitment to cross-functional collaboration that benefits customers. The lessons we have learned from this project will pave the way for future innovations and enable us to continue producing leading-edge products.”

About Able Aerospace Services Able Aerospace Services is a leading supplier of component MRO, approved replacement parts and completion services. With headquarters and maintenance facilities on the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (KIWA) in Mesa, Arizona, Able’s products and services support almost 1,500 commercial and military fixed- and rotor-wing aviation customers in more than 60 countries. Able combines 32 years of aviation experience with a staff of more than 450 employees to accomplish its mission: To safely reduce aircraft operating costs by providing resourceful component repair, overhaul and approved replacement parts solutions. Able is an approved Bell Helicopter Service Center and certified by numerous airworthiness authorities including the FAA, EASA, ANAC, CAAC, JCAB, DGCA and others.

P2010 TDI (Diesel/JetA1 engine) Achieves EASA Type Certificate

 press release

After the live-streaming world premiere held in May 2020, which introduced the P2010 TDI to the market, Costruzioni Aeronautiche TECNAM SpA® has announced today the achievement of the Type Certificate for the P2010 TDI.

The P2010 TDI certification is just the latest achievement of Tecnam’s continuous development and innovation programs, adding the Diesel/JetA1 engine to the already-wide range of choice of Avgas and Mogas-powered TECNAM aircraft.

The P2010 airframe, with its wide, composite, sleek fuselage design and the all-metal wing and stabilator, has proven to be the perfect platform to match the Diesel engine performances and capabilities. The consolidated comfort, accessibility, safety and reliability of the “P Twenty-Ten” are now accompanied by the flexibility granted by the use of Diesel/JetA1 fuel and the extremely low operating costs provided by the dual FADEC-controlled Continental engine.

Along with the 180 hp Avgas/Mogas and 215 hp Avgas engines, certification of the 170 hp TDI widens the range of choice for P2010 customers. This latest engine development brings the aviation market unbeatable fuel efficiency and performance: the turbo Diesel/JetA1 powerplant offers an outstanding cruise-fuel burn that ranges from 4.5 USG/hr (17 litres/hr) at 55% power, to 7 USG/hr (27 litres/hr) at 75% power. This provides consistent performance up to 8,000ft and allows operations up to 18,000ft, raising the P2010 to “new heights” (for which an optional oxygen system is provided). Moreover, the standard P2010 fuel tanks ensure an unrivalled range in excess of 1,000nm and endurance of up to 15 hours, all monitored through the state-of-the-art standard G1000NXI avionics package.

The TECNAM design team has paid particular attention to maintaining the P2010 series characteristics of great comfort, low noise and minimal vibration. Some of the many options available include Premium leather interiors with electric seats; the GFC-700 autopilot, which ensures smooth and precise autopilot operations; and the additional safety that can be provided by the Garmin GTS-800 TAS system.

The P2010 TDI is a culmination of all the very latest technologies, where Tecnam’s ability to manage both metal and composite components has shaped a unique solution in terms of efficiency, load-carrying structure and unique Italian style. The fuselage and vertical fin, entirely made of pre-peg carbon fibres, provide the best use of space, while wings, horizontal tail and rudder, as well as all the load-carrying structures, are built with 70 years’ experience of light alloy structures.

Flight safety is self-evident in the latest certification requirements, followed by the electrically operated, adjustable-height seats with 26G-capable crashworthiness. Flying experience is the ultimate with the Garmin® G1000® NXi glass cockpit and GFCTM 700 autopilot, entirely integrated and tuned around the ContinentalTM CD-170 engine.

Continental’s JetA1/Diesel-powered 170 HP engine offers ease of flying with its single-lever control, full FADEC, electronic engine monitoring and redundant safety features.
The CD-170 is the newest design and also the highest-horsepower engine in the CD-100 series, well-proven with more than 6,000 engines delivered and over 7.1 million service flight hours.

“The certification of a new aircraft is always a great achievement for us and for the aviation community, especially when it involves the best professionals of the Authority and from our company, setting the latest standard for safety and innovation,” says Paolo Pascale, TECNAM CEO. “The P Twenty-Ten remains a modern aircraft for flight schools and private owners. And now, with the Continental JetA1/Diesel engine, the P2010 TDI is simply the ‘ideal aircraft’, combining a modern, sleek, ‘green’ design with consistent, robust power.”

“The type certification for the Tecnam P2010 TDI is a significant milestone for the commercial use of JetA1/Diesel engines for flight schools and private owners,” said Jurgen Schwarz, Executive Vice President of Commercial Business for Continental Aerospace Technologies™. “We are proud to partner with Tecnam to offer aviators the opportunity to fly a ‘green’ aircraft design with robust power. The CD-170 JetA1 engine technology and availability of Diesel fuel will allow P2010 TDI operators to focus on flight operations instead of dwelling on fuel mixture and limited flight range.”

Airbus wins European Space Agency TRUTHS mission study for metrological traceability of Earth observation data

press release

TRUTHS to provide benchmark of Earth’s Radiation budget by consistent calibration traced to a metrological reference
Consistent calibration will also enhance existing satellite missions

Stevenage, 3 November 2020 – Airbus has been awarded the lead in the European Space Agency (ESA) contract for the TRUTHS A/B1 (System feasibility Studies and Pre-Developments) as part of ESA’s Earth Observation Earth Watch programme.

The TRUTHS satellite mission will collect measurements of the Sun radiation and of the sunlight reflected off Earth's surface traced to an absolute metrological reference, which will then be used to improve the climatological data sets and calibrate the observations of other satellites. This space-based climate and calibration observing system will enable data from other satellites to be compared more easily providing greater standards of data harmonisation for even more accurate climate change forecasts.

TRUTHS stands for Traceable Radiometry Underpinning Terrestrial and Helio Studies. The study will define the TRUTHS mission system implementation concept as well as focus on the preparation of critical technologies ahead of implementation of the mission in 2023.

TRUTHS will carry a Cryogenic Solar Absolute Radiometer (CSAR) to provide a primary calibration standard in order to benchmark measurements of both incoming solar radiation and outgoing reflected radiation - measured with a Hyperspectral Imaging Sensor (HIS) also part of the payload - with unprecedented accuracy. These measurements will give the ability to estimate radiative imbalance underlying climate change and, importantly, in a shorter time than is currently possible. TRUTHS will serve to calibrate other satellite sensors, such as those carried on the Copernicus missions, through co-imaging operations.

Richard Franklin, Managing Director of Airbus Defence and Space in the UK said: “Validating data on Earth’s changing climate is at the heart of this exciting mission - which will have a profound impact on future studies. It will provide the gold standard of calibration for space based Earth observation – a kind of ‘standards laboratory in space’. For the first time the international scientific community will be able to cross reference their measurements and data enabling much more accurate forecasts and analysis, especially from the European Copernicus programme.”

UK Science Minister Amanda Solloway said: “Data has been one of our most powerful and versatile weapons against coronavirus, and it is among our most potent weapons in countering climate change.”

“This mission, with Airbus leading the charge, will not only give us the first ever absolute measurement of the light reflected off Earth’s surface, it will reduce the uncertainty in future climate projections while arming our scientists with the most reliable data and insight we have ever had access to.”

The TRUTHS study and pre-developments will include key partners from the UK space industry including Teledyne e2v UK, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), RAL, University of Leicester, Thales Alenia Space UK, CGI IT UK, Telespazio-UK and Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station as well as important contributions from companies and institutes from the participating nations: The Czech Republic, Greece, Romania and Switzerland. The overall contract is worth approximately €16 million.

The UK has embarked on a strategy to take a leadership role in this domain building on the strong climate science expertise from among others the National Physical Laboratory, the National Centre for Earth Observation and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Space.
