Turkish air defense system, Siper, successfully hits target at 62 miles
A long-range Turkish indigenous air defense missile, Siper, was successfully test-fired and it hit the target with a range of more than 100 kilometers (62 miles), a top defense official said Friday.
"A New Year's gift to our nation as we enter the Turkish Century from our defense industry," tweeted Ismail Demir, the head of Türkiye's Defense Industries Presidency.
The Siper project is led by Türkiye's defense giants Aselsan and Roketsan, as well as the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK).

New nanoscale 3D printing material designed by Stanford engineers could offer better structural protection for satellites, drones, and microelectronics
Science fiction envisions rapid 3D printing processes that can quickly create new objects out of any number of materials. But in reality, 3D printing is still limited in the properties and types of materials that are available for use, especially when printing at very small scales.

Researchers at Stanford have developed a new material for printing at the nanoscale – creating structures that are a fraction of the width of a human hair – and used it to print minuscule lattices that are both strong and light. In a paper published in Science, the researchers demonstrated that the new material is able to absorb twice as much energy than other 3D-printed materials of a comparable density. In the future, their invention could be used to create better lightweight protection for fragile pieces of satellites, drones, and microelectronics.

USINDOPACOM Statement on Unsafe Intercept of U.S. aircraft over South China Sea
On Dec. 21 (China Standard Time), a People's Liberation Army - Navy J-11 fighter pilot performed an unsafe maneuver during an intercept of a U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft, which was lawfully conducting routine operations over the South China Sea in international airspace. The PLAN pilot flew an unsafe maneuver by flying in front of and within 20 feet of the nose of the RC-135, forcing the RC-135 to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision.

Falco Xplorer completes first flight campaign, a decisive step towards the certification of the drone | Leonardo
The Falco Xplorer is the first MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance)-class uncrewed system to exclusively use European technology. It is designed to deliver persistent surveillance over wide areas of interest and can carry multiple sensors weighing up to a total 350kg. The Xplorer is the latest entry in Leonardo's Falco family of uncrewed systems, which also includes the Falco Evo. The demo, held in collaboration with the Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems program (PMA-263), employed unmanned vehicles to transport cargo weighing less than 50 lbs., which accounts for 90% of Navy logistics deliveries.
"We are seeing an increase in manned and unmanned logistics," said Col. Victor Argobright, PMA-263 program manager. "For the Marine Corps, the Commandant is enthusiastic about where we are going with unmanned logistics, and is beginning conversations about operations and contested environments.
