The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is pleased to announce the release of its guidelines to establish the noise levels of drones below 600 kg, which aim at providing harmonized procedures to measure the noise of drones used in the low and medium-risk operations of the 'specific' category.

This release expands on the initial public consultation phase, after collecting around 90 comments from UAS manufacturers, operators, academia and national aviation authorities.

In addition to the guidelines, EASA is also providing a template for a typical noise report that applicants or declarants can use to submit noise data, as well as a self-explanatory spreadsheet assisting the noise adjustment procedures.

Evidence for Large Increases in Clear‐Air Turbulence Over the Past Four Decades - Prosser - 2023 - Geophysical Research Letters - Wiley Online Library

Turbulence is unpleasant to fly through in an aircraft. Strong turbulence can even injure air passengers and flight attendants. An invisible form called clear-air turbulence (CAT) is predicted to become more frequent because of climate change. Here we analyze modern atmospheric data based on four decades of observations (1979–2020) to investigate whether CAT has already started to increase. We use 21 different turbulence calculations to ensure our results are as reliable as possible. We find clear evidence of large CAT increases in various places around the world at aircraft cruising altitudes since satellites began observing the atmosphere. For example, at a typical point over the North Atlantic, the upward trend is such that the strongest category of CAT was 55% more frequent in 2020 than 1979. Our study represents the best evidence yet that CAT has increased over the past four decades, consistent with the expected effects of climate change.

Junio 2023.- COMET Ingeniería, empresa líder en el sector aeroespacial en la Comunidad Valenciana, ha obtenido la certificación DOA (Design Organization Approval) otorgada por la Agencia Europea de Seguridad Aérea (EASA). Gracias a este certificado, COMET amplia notablemente su cartera de servicios, ya que, según la normativa europea vigente, toda actividad desarrollada en el ámbito del diseño de modificaciones o reparación de elementos embarcados en aeronaves que operen o sobrevuelen territorio europeo, debe ser realizada por entidades que cuenten con esta certificación.

Además, este logro sitúa a COMET en un selecto grupo de empresas -poco más de 330 en todo el mundo– que cuentan con dicho certificado y, por tanto, que están habilitadas para desempeñar estas competencias. De ellas, sólo 23 se encuentran en España, y únicamente cuatro en la Comunidad Valenciana, siendo COMET Ingeniería la primera en conseguirlo de la provincia de Valencia.

Garantía de calidad y nuevas competencias

La certificación DOA EASA.21J.812 es un distintivo de excelencia y calidad en el ámbito de la ingeniería aeronáutica. Requiere cumplir rigurosos estándares de competencia técnica, capacidad de diseño y desarrollo, así como demostrar una gestión sobresaliente de la calidad y la seguridad en proyectos aeronáuticos. La obtención de esta certificación confirma la posición de liderazgo de COMET Ingeniería, y reafirma su compromiso con la excelencia en todas sus operaciones.

Además. gracias a este nuevo logro, COMET Ingeniería adquiere un papel más integral en el diseño y desarrollo aeronáutico, concretamente ampliando sus competencias en modificaciones menores y reparación de aviones (CS 23) y helicópteros (CS 27 y CS 29), en todo lo concerniente a estructuras, fuselajes, alas, empenaje o soportes para equipamientos externos, en la cabina de pilotaje o en la bodega de carga, etc.
