El 27 de marzo, la empresa de ingeniería británica Babcock Internacional llegó a un acuerdo para comprar el grupo Avincis, el primer operador privado de helicópteros y propietaria de la empresa española Inaer, a sus actuales propietarios, la compañía World Helicopter, propiedad de los fondos de inversión Investindustrial y KKR. Inaer supone el 60 por ciento de Avincis y opera en multitud de países, proporcionando servicios de emergencias médicas, protección civil, búsqueda y salvamento en el mar o montaña, así como extinción de incendios, operaciones para las que tiene desplegados 305 aparatos, dando empleo a 2.213 trabajadores. De esta manera Babcock asume la deuda actual de Avincis, que está estimada en 850 millones de euros y espera que la empresa abandone los números rojos en los próximos tres años. Se espera que el acuerdo se cierre durante el mes de abril y el proceso de adquisición concluya en mayo de este año (JNG).

Squadron Leader Lloyd Barrett said the Boeing P-8 Poseidon “is the most capable” option but also “the most expensive” and revealed that the Airbus Military C295 and Bombardier Dash are the other off the shelf options being considered to replace the Nimrod which was cancelled in 2010 by the coalition government because of safety concerns.

Could a quite spectacular speculative bubble pop in the next few years? Most of the world's airlines are ordering a lot of commercial transports, perhaps more than they need. If this is the case, cancellations may not be far behind, to be followed by a serious industrial crisis. In light of overcapacity, manufacturers would have to slash production rates. Such a worst-case scenario is said to be a hot topic behind closed doors in Toulouse and Chicago because both major manufacturers are selling significantly more aircraft than they currently produce.
