New Hawk Advanced Trainer Flies Past Major Milestones

RAF Valley, Wales – A significant achievement has been achieved with the first 500 sorties, and 500 flying hours, completed on the UK Royal Air Force's (RAF) Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT).


The RAF received the first of their 28 Hawk AJTs, also known as the TMk2, in 2009.  Significant progress with the aircraft, which is used to train fast jet pilots of the future, has been made to date.

Wing Commander Brian Braid said: "To complete over 500 sorties and flying hours in the Hawk TMk2 is a great achievement. Since coming into service with 19(Reserve) Squadron last April the aircraft has caused quite a stir at RAF Valley as a world leading fast jet trainer.

"It has all the familiarity of the world renowned and much loved Hawk series of aircraft, but has the added bonus of being packed with the latest technology and avionics. The Hawk TMk2 is set to revolutionise the way the RAF trains its future fast jet pilots under the UK Military Flying Training System. All the pilots currently flying the Hawk TMk2 have nothing but praise for its ability to emulate our front line aircraft and are looking forward to being able to teach students and front line fast jet pilots in the new aircraft in the near future."

The RAF only received the first of their aircraft last year and have already got to grips with it and achieved this high number of sorties and flying hours. BAE Systems has recently been awarded a contract to support the AJT aircraft over the next four years, and is responsible not only for the number of aircraft made available for training flights but also for ensuring that the aircraft are able to carry out the training mission effectively.

To date 23 of the 28 aircraft have been delivered by BAE Systems to the RAF at RAF Valley. The final aircraft is due to be delivered this year.

BAE Systems also currently supports the RAF's Hawk TMk1 fleet at RAF Valley on Anglesey in Wales.  

Over 900 Hawk aircraft have been sold, or are on order, and the aircraft is currently helping produce highly trained pilots across 25 countries worldwide. The AJT is the latest evolution of the Hawk family of Jet Trainers. It features the latest embedded training capabilities, and when combined into an Integrated Training System will deliver trained pilots at the lowest cost.

Boeing elige realizar inspecciones al 787 antes de volar

Boeing identificó recientemente una cuestión de fabricación relacionada con los estabilizadores horizontales del 787. Algunos aviones requieren revisar la correcta instalación de las pletinas y el par de los correspondientes cierres. Si se encuentran discrepancias, este hallazgo requiere la inspección de todos los aviones y modificaciones.

Ya se ha implementado un plan de inspecciones y modificaciones para los aviones en producción. Los trabajos de modificación en cada avión que los requiera podrían tardar hasta ocho días. Es habitual que surjan estas cuestiones a lo largo de un programa de producción – se identifican, se estudian y se resuelven dentro del proceso normal.

Los informes que indican que la flota está “en tierra” son incorrectos. Boeing ha tomado la decisión de verificar los estabilizadores horizontales de todos los aviones de pruebas antes de realizar los próximos vuelos para asegurar que cualquier modificación se lleva a cabo lo más rápido posible. Se prevé que las inspecciones tardarán uno o dos días.

Esperamos que este asunto se resuelva dentro del calendario ya fijado por el programa. El 787 continua según lo previsto para efectuar la primera entrega a ANA para finales de año.

Boeing and FAA to Team for Cleaner Skies, Quieter Airplanes

WASHINGTON, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration announced today that they will work together to speed the development and application of environmentally progressive technologies for cleaner and quieter jet aircraft.

As part of the FAA's Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions and Noise (CLEEN) program, Boeing and the FAA each will contribute up to $25 million during the next five years to conduct flight demonstrations of emergent airframe and engine technologies that have the potential of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and community noise.

"By combining our resources and expertise, we believe we can transition promising technologies from
development into service more quickly to help reduce the environmental footprint of airplanes," said Matt Ganz, vice president and general manager of Boeing Research & Technology, which is leading the program at Boeing. "We recognize the importance of protecting our ecosystem and are looking forward to working with the FAA on a variety of innovative solutions to help define the future."

The technologies being developed under the CLEEN program will be flight tested aboard two demonstration vehicles, a Next-Generation Boeing 737 in 2012, with a second series of test flights aboard a yet-to-be-determined twin-aisle airplane in 2013.

This flight-test program builds on the success of the company's Quiet Technology Demonstrators, which successfully highlighted a variety of noise reduction technologies during test flights aboard Boeing 777 aircraft from 2001 to 2005.

According to Boeing CLEEN Program Manager Craig Wilsey, the technologies that will be developed and tested during demonstration flights include adaptive wing trailing edges and ceramic matrix composite acoustic engine nozzles.

Adaptive trailing edges pertain to a collection of small controllable devices that are integrated into the aft portion of the wing. Most traditional wings are designed for best performance while at cruise, and have performance compromises during other flight phases. Adaptive trailing edges can help tailor the wing configuration to reduce fuel burn at takeoff, climb and cruise, and to reduce community noise at takeoff and landing.

New-generation engines on commercial airplanes are more efficient, but require materials that are capable of withstanding higher temperatures than previous engines. Ceramic matrix composites offer the potential of better thermal and structural performance, while helping to reduce weight and acoustic footprint.
In addition to Boeing Research & Technology, the company's advanced central research, technology and innovation organization, Boeing's CLEEN team is composed of engineers and support staff from Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Boeing Test & Evaluation.

Boeing continues to take aggressive steps to improve the environmental performance of its products including:

  • Producing the world's newest commercial airplanes, the 787 Dreamliner and the 747-8, designed to be significantly more fuel-efficient and have lower emissions than earlier generation jetliners.
  • Pioneering research into sustainable aviation biofuel made from biomass sources that do not compete with food crops or land or water use. Aviation biofuels have lower carbon emissions over their lifecycle and help lessen aviation's dependence on fossil fuels.
  • Developing ways to improve the efficiency of the global air traffic control network, which will enable passengers to arrive at their gates sooner and reduce the carbon footprint of commercial air travel.

Fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions are huge priorities in the aviation industry – passenger airliners chew through amazing quantities of fuel. Take the Boeing 747, which guzzles somewhere around a gallon of jet fuel per second – it's clear that a percentile improvement in fuel consumption can make a huge difference to costs at the end of a long-haul flight. That's why the Minix wing tip deserves close scrutiny. It replaces the tilted winglets at the tip of an aircraft wing, can be retrofitted to any airplane, and smooths out the wing-tip vortex, reducing the aircraft's wing drag. Minix claims the design is five times more effective than a regular winglet and can save as much as 6% on an aircraft's energy costs. For a commercial Boeing 747, that equates to a saving of around 600,000 gallons of fuel per year, per aircraft. Food for thought.

Cri-Cri, the all-electric aircraft

Innovation and eco-efficiency are the buzzwords at EADS. Following the flight of an aircraft powered by algae-based fuel, EADS is now tackling the new challenge of a zero-emission propellant.

Partnered by Aero Composites Saintonge and the Greencri-cri Association, EADS Innovation Works will present Cri-Cri, the first-ever four-engined all-electric aerobatic plane, at the Green Aviation Show in Le Bourget from 18 to 22 June.

This aerobatic plane incorporates numerous innovative technologies such as lightweight composite structures that reduce the weight of the airframe and compensate for the additional weight of the batteries, four brushless electric motors with counter-rotating propellers which deliver propulsion without CO2 emissions and significantly lower noise compared to thermal propulsion, and high energy-density Lithium batteries.

The combined utilisation of these environment-friendly technical innovations enables the Cri-Cri to deliver novel performance values: 30 minutes of autonomous cruise flight at 110 km/h, 15 minutes of autonomous aerobatics at speeds reaching up to 250 km/h, and a climb rate of approximately 5.3 m/sec.

Set to undergo its first flight tests in the next few days, this four-engine electric plane paves the way for a new generation of environment-friendly high-performance aircraft.

Honeywell Green Jet Fuel™ Powers Royal Netherlands Air Force Helicopter

Fuel produced using Honeywell’s UOP process technology will power the first helicopter flight on sustainable biofuels


DES PLAINES, Ill., June 16, 2010 – UOP LLC, a Honeywell (NYSE: HON) company, announced today that Honeywell Green Jet Fuel™ produced using its Green Jet Fuel process technology powered a Boeing AH-64D Apache helicopter flown by the Royal Netherlands Air Force.

The flight, which is the first helicopter flight using sustainable aviation biofuels to date, was conducted at Gilze-Rijen Airbase, the home of the Royal Netherlands’ combat helicopter fleet. Natural oils from algae and used cooking oil were converted into Green Jet Fuel using process technology developed by Honeywell’s UOP. The aviation biofuel was blended in a 50 percent mixture with traditional jet fuel, and this blend was used to power one of the Apache’s engines for a series of test maneuvers. No modifications were made to the engine or airframe for the flight.

“We congratulate the Royal Netherlands Air Force on this first successful helicopter flight and applaud their commitment to identifying new, sustainable sources for aviation biofuel,” said Jim Rekoske, vice president and general manager for the Renewable Energy and Chemicals business of Honeywell’s UOP. “We continue to show through testing and demonstrations the viability of biofuels for both military and commercial aviation.”

Honeywell Green Jet Fuel has been used in four previous commercial biofuel demonstration flights, including a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines demonstration flight in November 2009. The fuel has also been demonstrated in fixed-wing flights with the U.S. Air Force and Navy as part of a joint program for alternative fuels testing and certification under the U.S. Defense Energy Support Center (DESC).

The process technology was originally developed in 2007 under a contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to produce renewable military jet fuel for the U.S. military. The process produces an aviation biofuel that can be blended seamlessly with petroleum-based fuel. As part of a 50 percent blend with petroleum-derived jet fuel, Green Jet Fuel is a drop-in replacement that requires no changes to the aircraft technology and meets all critical specifications for flight

Los nuevos modelos matemáticos reducirán la contaminación acústica de los aviones del futuro

El ex director del Departamento de Aeronáutica de la NASA, Juan José Alonso, ha apostado por nanoestructuras para fabricar aviones de menor peso, en una conferencia en la Universidad de Zaragoza. La ponencia se enmarca dentro del workshop 'Matemáticas y Aire', que ha organizado el Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Matemáticas y Aplicaciones

Los nuevos modelos matemáticos reducirán la contaminación acústica y el consumo de los aviones del futuro, según ha asegurado hoy Juan José Alonso, ex director del Departamento de Aeronáutica de la NASA y profesor de la Universidad de Stanford, en una conferencia que ha ofrecido hoy dentro del workshop 'Matemáticas y Aire', que se celebra estos días en el Edificio de Matemáticas del Campus San Francisco. El Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Matemáticas y Aplicaciones (IUMA) ha organizado este encuentro, en el que también ha colaborado CIRCE, y que se desarrolla desde hoy y hasta el próximo viernes.

Alonso ha destacado la utilidad del cálculo numérico para estudiar el flujo del aire alrededor de los aviones para conseguir un consumo más bajo y un ruido menor. Gracias a la aplicación de las matemáticas, "conseguimos que las emisiones y el impacto medioambiental sean menores", ha añadido.

El papel de las matemáticas en este campo es simular lo que existe y lo que no existe para así diseñar los aviones del futuro. En este sentido, el profesor de la Universidad de Stanford ha explicado que será necesario incrementar la envergadura de los aviones, crear motores híbridos, utilizar energías renovables y estudiar estructuras relacionadas con la nanotecnología para fabricar aviones de menor peso que puedan transportar la misma carga.

El catedrático de Matemáticas, Juan Ignacio Montijano, organizador de este workshop, ha destacado el importante futuro de Aragón en cuanto a la energía eólica. En este sentido ha explicado el papel de las matemáticas que intervienen en la predicción del viento para optimizar el funcionamiento de aerogeneradores y también el almacenamiento de energía. El profesor Montijano ha asegurado que los cálculos numéricos ayudan a estudiar cómo se va a comportar el sonido para reducirlo. La matemática entra en los problemas reales a través de la simulación que se obtiene de ecuaciones matemáticas muy complejas. Por ello, detrás de cualquier avance tecnológico hay un importante trabajo matemático.

El Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Matemáticas y Aplicaciones, tras analizar en años anteriores la relación entre las matemáticas y el agua-- coincidiendo con la Expo 2008 (http://iuma.unizar.es/maths_water/)-- o con el fuego (http://iuma.unizar.es/maths_fire/), ha optado en esta ocasión por el aire. Con esta temática base como hilo conductor, desde el IUMA se pretende mostrar la importancia y el impacto que las matemáticas tienen en problemas de la vida cotidiana de diversa índole, y al mismo tiempo establecer un foro de comunicación con los mejores expertos internacionales que permitan mejorar la investigación interdisciplinar.

El objetivo del Workshop es atraer no sólo a matemáticos, sino también a otros científicos como ingenieros y físicos, entre otros, así como a miembros de instituciones que se encargan de la gestión ambiental, de energías renovables, acústica y aerodinámica, para que muestren los problemas que tienen en su actividad. De este modo, se pretende establecer cooperaciones entre matemáticos y científicos y profesionales de otras disciplinas, que faciliten el aprovechamiento de la investigación en matemáticas al servicio de la sociedad.

Entre los participantes destacan especialistas provenientes de Estados Unidos (Stanford, San Diego), Dinamarca, Bélgica, de España (Universidad Carlos III, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, CENER) así como de Aragón (Universidad de Zaragoza, ITA, CIRCE).

"More work remains but we are seeing excellent progress in flight test," said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Even more important than the hours we've logged are the test conditions we have completed. The team is being very efficient in getting the data we need."

The creation of an aviation biofuel production facility in Brazil will be evaluated by EADS, Eurocopter and BioCombustibles del Chubut under terms of a cooperative agreement signed at this month’s ILA Berlin Air Show.

The accord will benefit from the pioneering work in algae-based biofuels already conducted by EADS and BioCombustibles del Chubut, and it builds on Eurocopter’s growing presence in Brazil.

“EADS understands the importance of working with all elements of the ‘value chain’ in developing biofuels as an alternate to fossil fuels used in aviation,” said EADS Chief Technical Officer Jean Botti. “By teaming with BioCombustibles del Chubut, we will benefit from the company’s unmatched experience in developing microalgae as a source of next-generation biofuels.”

“The signature of this agreement is the first step in changing the future of aviation as we know it today,” said Marcelo González Machin, the president of BioCombustibles del Chubut. “Furthermore, through the production of this biofuel, the EADS Group will start a very significant social and productive change worldwide. It will be a revolutionary change, not only for the massive reductions in CO2 emissions that it is to provide, but also for production system that it will establish.”

“Eurocopter has made the development of more eco-friendly helicopters one of its priorities,” said Didier Renaux, Eurocopter’s Business Engineering Vice President. “Moreover, the concept of local production of algae biofuel is particularly adapted to helicopter operations, and opens new business opportunities.”

Under terms of the agreement signed at the Berlin Air Show, the team of EADS, Eurocopter and BioCombustibles del Chubut will perform feasibility studies using microalgae farming to produce aviation-grade biofuel. The feasibility of helicopter flight tests with the biofuel is currently under assessment.
A subsequent step could be the development of full-scale biofuel production plant in Brazil based on a confirmation of the technical and economic feasibility of such an operation.

BioCombustibles del Chubut is a Patagonia, Argentina-based company specialized in the production of microalgae for oil and biofuels. It supplied the microalgae oil for the EADS-demonstrator Diamond Aircraft DA42 general aviation aircraft, which made daily demonstration flights at the 2010 Berlin Air Show – a world’s first utilising pure algae biofuel.

Microalgae are microscopic organisms that use sunlight, water and minerals to grow by photosynthesis, while absorbing carbon dioxide greenhouse gases in the photosynthesis process. The microalgae reproduce more rapidly and create significantly more biomass (organic substance) per cultivated area, and their cultivation process does not compete with food production.

Grown for many years on a commercial basis for the development of products such as food supplements and cosmetics, microalgae have now emerged as one of the leading sources of alternative fuels.

Company states that it is actively seeking additional investors to complete the final stages of FAA certification for the G-300 rotary aircraft engine

Geneva, Switzerland (June 9th, 2010) – Mistral Engines has announced that due to the shortage of funding, the Board of Directors has voted to put an immediate hold on its efforts to develop and certify the all-new, 300 horsepower, G-300 rotary aircraft engine.

The Mistral Engine concept has been in development for the past 10-years. Prior to the decision to cease operations, the company had entered into the final stages testing and had expected to receive FAA certification of the G-300 in the first quarter of 2011

“At the operational level, all indicators are green both from a technical and commercial standpoint,” said Philippe Durr, CEO, Mistral Engines. “The shortage of cash is terribly frustrating for all involved stakeholders, namely employees, investors, partners, suppliers and, of course, our potential customers.”
“Fortunately, these troubled times can be very quickly overcome if adequate financing is secured in the coming weeks,” he added. “The Board’s decision was especially difficult because of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s recent notice on 100LL Avgas availability. Our engine is an environmentally solution to that problem. The Mistral rotary engine runs efficiently on any type of autogas or Avgas. In addition, we are well along with developing a version of the Mistral Engine that runs on Jet-A1 fuel”.

Durr said that because of the potential for the Mistral Engine’s capabilities, the company is actively seeking new avenues of financing including partnerships and the outright sale of the Mistral Engine design technology to another company.
The normally-aspirated Mistral G-300 is a revolutionary three (3)-rotor rotary engine that is intended to bridge the current performance, reliability and cost gap between current piston and turbine engines. The company states that the new engine series “will deliver a responsible solution to the environmental, social and economic challenges facing general aviation in the 21st century.”

The 300-horsepower, G-300 is the first of a family of new-technology rotary engines under development by Mistral. The rotary engines range from 200 to 360 horsepower and offer significant operational benefits including multi-fuel capabilities, new-generation electronic fuel controls, vibration-free operation, and liquid cooling.

Mr. Durr also said that because of the G-300’s many advantages over current traditional piston engines offerings, the company is seeing significant interest from aircraft, helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturers around the world.

The US Army has confirmed Northrop Grumman will develop the Long Endurance Multi-intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) technology demonstrator, awarding the company a five-year, $517 million contract to build and fly the three-week-endurance hybrid airship. Lockheed Martin was the other finalist.

The US FAA and unmanned aerial system (UAS) maker Boeing Insitu have drawn up a cooperative research and development agreement to study drones in civil airspace for the next two years.

Research Suggests Water Content Of Moon Interior Underestimated

WASHINGTON -- NASA-funded scientists estimate from recent research that the volume of water molecules locked inside minerals in the moon's interior could exceed the amount of water in the Great Lakes here on Earth.

Scientists at the Carnegie Institution's Geophysical Laboratory in Washington, along with other scientists across the nation, determined that the water was likely present very early in the moon's formation history as hot magma started to cool and crystallize. This finding means water is native to the moon.

"For over 40 years we thought the moon was dry," said Francis McCubbin of Carnegie and lead author of the report published in Monday's Online Early Edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. "In our study we looked at hydroxyl, a compound with an oxygen atom bound with hydrogen, and apatite, a water-bearing mineral in the assemblage of minerals we examined in two Apollo samples and a lunar meteorite."

McCubbin's team utilized tests which detect elements in the parts per billion range. Combining their measurements with models that characterize how the material crystallized as the moon cooled during formation, they found that the minimum water content ranged from 64 parts per billion to 5 parts per million. The result is at least two orders of magnitude greater than previous results from lunar samples that estimated water content of the moon to be less than 1 parts per billion.

"In this case, when we talk about water on the moon, we mean water in the structural form hydroxyl," said Jim Green, director of the Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "This is a very minor component of the rocks that make up the lunar interior."

The origin of the moon is now commonly believed to be the result of a Mars-sized object that impacted the Earth 4.5 billion years ago. This impact put a large amount of material into Earth's orbit that ultimately compacted to form the moon. The lunar magma ocean that is thought to have formed at some point during the compacting process, began to cool. During this cooling, water either escaped or was preserved as hydroxyl molecules in the crystallizing minerals.

Previous studies found evidence of water both on the lunar surface and inside the moon by using respectively, remote sensing data from the Indian spacecraft Chandrayaan-1 and other lunar sample analysis. Carnegie researchers looked within crystalline rocks called KREEP (K for potassium; REE, for rare Earth elements; and P for phosphorus). These rocks are a component of some lunar impact melt and basaltic rocks.

"Since water is insoluble in the main silicates that crystallized, we believed that it should have concentrated in those rocks," said Andrew Steele of Carnegie and co-author of the report. "That's why we selected KREEP to analyze."

The identification of water from multiple types of lunar rocks that display a range of incompatible trace element signatures indicates that water may be at low concentrations but ubiquitous within the moon's interior, potentially as early as the time of lunar formation and magma ocean crystallization.

"It is gratifying to see this proof of the hydroxyl contents in lunar apatite," said lunar scientist Bradley Jolliff of Washington University in St. Louis. "The concentrations are very low and, accordingly, they have been until recently nearly impossible to detect. We can now finally begin to consider the implications - and the origin - of water in the interior of the moon."

El festival arrancó a las 10:00 horas con la actuación de los ultraligeros de la escuela de la Llosa de Castellón, el Real Aeroclub y el Paraclub ambos de Valencia. Posteriormente fue el turno para las aeronaves donde participaron, por parte del Ejército del Aire, un caza F-18 del Ala 15 y un Canadair CL-415 aeronave destinada en el 43 Grupo para la extinción de incendios.


Después, saltaron paracaidistas civiles y tras ellos la Patrulla Acrobática de Paracaidismo del Ejército del Aire (PAPEA). Sus componentes cayeron desde más de 3.000 metros de altura a más de 200 kilómetros por hora, realizando diversas maniobras entre las que destacaron por su dificultad la formación en espejo, donde dos paracaidistas unidos por los pies descienden en horizontal, así cómo un relativo campana, maniobra en la que participaron tres paracaidistas. Cada uno de ellos, agarrado por los cordones a la campana del hombre que tiene debajo, forman una columna en la que el último hombre una gran bandera de España.


Tras la participación de diferentes helicópteros de la Guardia Civil, Cuerpo Nacional de Policía y Dirección General de Tráfico y Aduanas, el broche final lo puso la actuación de la Patrulla Águila.

IberSim 2010 Call for papers

The IberSim 2010 Conference will be held in Madrid, Spain, on 27-28 October 2010.
All sessions of the IberSim 2010 Conference will be Unclassified. The Conference is open to NATO, Partner, Mediterranean Dialogue and Contact Nations.

Authors are invited to submit papers for this Conference. Papers can be accepted in English and Spanish.

Simultaneous translation might be provided between these two languages during all Conference Sessions.

The Programme Committee will select about 20 papers considered suitable for presentation at the Conference.

The selection of papers will be completed by 31 August 2010. Authors will be notified shortly thereafter whether or not their papers are selected. Authors of selected papers will also be provided with information in the Instructions for Authors, which contains detailed instructions for the presentation, transmission, etc. of papers.

The time allowed for each speaker is normally 30 minutes, which includes 10 minutes for discussion. Equipment will be available for PowerPoint presentations. The time and date of your presentation is in the Programme Announcement which you will receive along with the Instructions to Authors.

IMPORTANT: Authors of selected papers are to provide to the IberSim organisers with a printed version of their complete manuscript (PDF file) and the source document (MS Word, etc.) by e-mail 30 days prior to the Conference. Cleared papers, when available, will be put on the IberSim website prior to the IberSim 2010 Conference, under the ‘Pre-Released’ section of the ‘Reports’ pages and will remain as such until officially published.

A copy of the Oral Presentation of your paper is also requested prior to the Conference for the use of the interpreters. Further details of all these requests can be found in the ‘Authoring Support’ pages of the IberSim 2010 website.

El presidente de EADS, Louis Gallois, prevé que el nuevo contrato del avión militar A400M, cuyo ensamblaje final se realiza en Sevilla, se firme "probablemente en otoño", dada la complejidad parar que los siete países clientes del programa, entre los que se encuentra España, se pongan de acuerdo en su redacción.

En una entrevista a la cadena de televisión gala LCI, el presidente de la matriz de Airbus no descartó que el preacuerdo alcanzado en marzo por los siete estados para aportar 3.500 millones de euros adicionales al programa y hacer frente así a los costes adicionales derivados de sus retrasos, pueda formalizarse antes del verano. "No excluyo totalmente que antes del verano", afirmó.

La ingeniería vasca SENER ha recibido del departamento de Energía de EEUU una subvención para participar en el desarrollo de la nueva generación de sistemas de almacenamiento térmico de alto rendimiento para plantas de energía termosolar.

EVERETT, Wash., June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) began fuselage assembly of the first 747-8 Intercontinental at the factory in Everett, Wash. Mechanics loaded panels for the 31-foot, 8-inch (9.6 m) long front section of the new airplane into the assembly tool. The panels are part of section 41, the area of the fuselage that houses the flight deck on the upper deck and the forward passenger cabin on the main deck, an area that most airlines typically configure with first class seating.



The 747-8 Intercontinental is the new, high-capacity 747 that offers airlines the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large passenger airplane while providing enhanced environmental performance. Boeing has 109 orders for the 747-8 -- 33 for the 747-8 Intercontinental and 76 for the 747-8 Freighter. The first 747-8 Intercontinental is scheduled to deliver in late 2011.

European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company NV (EADS) would transfer some of the development projects of its advanced fourth generation Eurofighter Typhoon or other military aircraft to India soon, a top company official said on Thursday.
